Skin Cancer and Pre-Cancerous Lesions. Melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are all dangerous skin cancers that can cause disfigurement and even death, if left untreated. Put your mind at ease by scheduling regular total-body screenings with one of our trusted dermatologists. At Tulsa Dermatology Clinic, you always are evaluated by board-certified physicians, who are specially trained to identify and treat a wide variety of cancerous and pre-cancerous skin lesions. We generally treat pre-cancerous lesions with cryotherapy (freezing) and topical therapies. Skin cancers may be removed with procedures that utilize traditional surgical removal or electrosurgery techniques that use an electric current and curettage . We also offer superficial radiation therapy for some skin cancers.

Benign Skin Lesions. At some point in life, nearly everyone experiences benign skin lesions such as cysts, moles or warts, which are common in people of all ages. They may be present at birth or develop later in life as a result of viruses, systemic disorders or environment conditions. While harmless, these and other benign skin lesions can be worrisome or may get in the way of your everyday routine. In this case, the trained eye of a board-certified dermatologist may be required to identify the lesion, confirm that it is noncancerous and treat the problem at hand. The physicians of Tulsa Dermatology Clinic utilize a variety of techniques to remove or treat benign skin lesions, including surgical removal, cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen) and other nonsurgical means.

Psoriasis. This chronic, recurring skin disease is driven by your immune system and usually appears as large scaly spots on your body and extremities. Caused by an abnormally high rate of skin cell growth, psoriasis also can affect your nails and joints. Tulsa Dermatology Clinic’s board-certified dermatologists can evaluate your individual condition and discuss various psoriasis treatment options that include topical medicines and light therapy. We are trained in the use of all available systemic therapies.

Eczema. Another common skin disease driven by an abnormal function of the immune system, eczema is a general term for skin inflammation. It can affect any part of your body or can be limited to your hands or scalp. People of any age are susceptible to eczema, although it is often seen in infants, who may or may not “grow out of” the condition. Some forms of eczema can be triggered by allergic reactions to soaps, clothing, jewelry or plants. Stress also can be a trigger. Our board-certified dermatologists use a variety of eczema treatment options, including topical and oral therapies and ultraviolet light therapy. We work closely with patients to help them manage this often frustrating disease, which can come and go throughout your life.

Acne and Rosacea. When a skin condition affects your face, it can be nearly
impossible to hide and can even destroy your confidence. Acne is a widespread skin condition often caused when your hormones, skin oils and bacteria combine to create pimples on the face and upper body. While typically associated with the teenage years, acne affects many people at different stages in life. Rosacea, another common skin disorder, produces pimples and significant facial redness. Our board-certified dermatologists offer the most current therapies available to treat both unsightly conditions. Their years of experience assist them in developing a skin care regimen tailored to your specific needs. Schedule a Tulsa Dermatology Clinic appointment today to get started on the road to clear skin.

Skin and Nail Fungi. Fungi are attracted to the warm, moist areas where skin surfaces meet but can be located almost anywhere on the body, including the scalp and nails. Red, irritated and scaly rashes may signal a skin fungal infection, which can spread to other parts of the body. Common fungal infections include candidiasis (yeast infection), ringworm or athlete’s foot. Children and adults can be affected by the overgrowth of fungi, but obese people and those with diabetes may be more prone to fungal infections than most. Fortunately, fungal treatment options include oral and topical therapies. Re-infection is common, but the board-certified dermatologists at Tulsa Dermatology Clinic can help you control this common problem.

Hyperhidrosis. If you experience embarrassing, excessive sweating that does not respond to over-the-counter deodorants and antiperspirants, you may have a disorder of the sweat glands called hyperhidrosis. This condition normally involves the underarms, palms and soles but can affect other areas of the body. Treatments can include topical and oral therapies. However, FDA-approved BOTOXÆ injections may be required for the treatment of hyperhidrosis when these medicines provide little relief. When injected into the problem area, BOTOXÆ works to temporarily reduce or stop sweat production. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Monks to discuss this highly effective treatment.

Surgical Procedures. Regardless of the size or scope of a surgical procedure, we
know you want and deserve to have the best medical care possible before, during and after your surgery. The board-certified dermatologists of Tulsa Dermatology Clinic have performed countless surgical procedures to treat benign and malignant skin lesions for both medical and cosmetic purposes. These procedures include biopsy, surgical removal, electrosurgery and cryotherapy.

At Tulsa Dermatology Clinic, you always will be evaluated and treated by a board-certified dermatologist. We do not employ physician assistants or nurse practitioners.
